Tim Dean Honored with Community Service Award
Our president, Tim Dean, received the “Community Service Award” at the annual Professional Insurance Agents of NYS board of directors dinner held Sept. 12, 2017. The PIANY Community Service Award recognizes individuals who demonstrate a significant commitment to the improvement of his or her community.
Tim started with Marshall & Sterling in 1985 as an account executive, then held the position of Branch Manager before moving on to his current role as President of the agency in 2009. He is a Certified Insurance Counselor and a Certified Risk Manager. Tim is a graduate of the University of Michigan with a bachelor’s degree in Communications.
Tim is an active volunteer in the community, serving as Vice Chair of the Dutchess County Industrial Development Agency (IDA) and Dutchess County Local Development Corporation (LDC.) He also serves on the boards of Hudson Valley Pattern for Progress, Vassar Brothers Medical Center and is a charter investor in the Hudson Valley Startup Fund. Tim is also an alumni student recruiter for the University of Michigan. Previously, Tim volunteered as Board Chair for the following organizations; the University of Michigan Alumni Association Hudson Valley chapter, the Kaatsbaan International Dance Center, the Mid-Hudson Civic Center, Community Foundations of the Hudson Valley and the Poughkeepsie Area Chamber of Commerce. He has also previously served as a board member for the United Way of the Dutchess/Orange Region, as Fund Drive Chair for the American Heart Association and for the Dutchess County Arts Council, as a Scoutmaster of Troop 1 Beacon New York, and as Adult Advisor of the Order of Arrow Ninham Chapter, Dutchess County Counsel, BSA. A resident of East Fishkill, Tim has also served as a coach for East Fishkill Youth Soccer. Tim has been married for 35 years to his wife, Alicia. They have a daughter pursuing a career in musical theater in NYC and a son who is a senior in Mechanical Engineering at the University of Michigan. In his free time, Tim enjoys running, skiing, cycling, tennis, racquetball, and woodworking.
An active member of PIANY, Tim will serve as vice president for 2017-18. He serves as chair of the Government Affairs Committee and is a member of its Company/Industry Relations Committee. PIANY is a trade association representing professional, independent insurance agencies, brokerages and their employees throughout the state.
