What Is Track Day & HPDE Insurance?

Track day insurance — also called HPDE, driving event, or DE insurance — provides on-track physical damage coverage for eligible vehicles participating in non-competitive performance driving events.

  • High Performance Driver Education (HPDE)
  • Driving Events (DE)
  • Track day coverage for non-competitive events
  • On-track physical damage coverage
  • Non-competition events only
  • Single-event or annual options
  • Designed for vehicles used in track day/HPDE contests

Does Personal Auto Insurance Cover Track Days?

Most personal auto policies exclude coverage for track use, even during non-competitive HPDE or driving events. While your vehicle may be street-legal, coverage often does not apply once it is driven on a racetrack.

Track day insurance is designed to address this gap by providing on-track physical damage coverage when your vehicle is used in approved driving events.

On-Track Physical Damage Coverage

This program provides on-track physical damage coverage during approved non-competitive events. Coverage focuses on the vehicle itself, helping address the gap where personal auto policies may not respond for track use.

  • On-track physical damage coverage during approved non-competitive events
  • Terminology coverage: Track day insurance, HPDE insurance, DE insurance, driving event insurance
  • Annual non-competition track insurance options for frequent participants
  • Agreed value / valuation approach discussed during quoting (where applicable)

Vehicle eligibility and street use

Race cars may be eligible for track day physical damage coverage only. Street driving is typically insured separately under a collector car policy or personal auto policy. No motorcycles are included in this program.

What this program does not cover

This program is designed for non-competitive driving events and does not include:

  • Competitive racing coverage
  • Motorcycle racing
  • Trailer coverage
  • Off-track motorsports insurance (program not currently available)
  • Facility/operator exposures (separate motorsports facility solutions)

Do I need track day insurance?

Track day insurance may be appropriate if you are participating in a non-competitive HPDE or driving event and want physical damage protection while your vehicle is on track. Most personal auto policies exclude track use.

Does personal auto insurance cover track days?

In most cases, no. Personal auto insurance policies typically exclude coverage for track use, High Performance Driver Education (HPDE), and organized driving events. Even if your vehicle is street-legal, coverage often does not apply once it is used on a racetrack.

Track day insurance is designed specifically to address that coverage gap.

Is track day insurance the same as racing insurance?

No. Track day insurance applies to non-competitive driving events, including HPDE and structured driving events. Competitive racing insurance is different and is not included in this program.

What types of driving events are covered?

Coverage is intended for approved, non-competitive performance driving events, including:

  • High Performance Driver Education (HPDE)
  • Driving Events (DE)
  • Organized track days
  • Each event must meet eligibility guidelines.

What does track day insurance cover?

Track day insurance provides on-track physical damage coverage for eligible vehicles during approved non-competitive events. It is designed to help protect the vehicle itself while on track.

Coverage structure and valuation details are reviewed during your consultation.

Are motorcycles covered under this program?

No. Motorcycles are not eligible for coverage under this track day insurance program.

Are race cars eligible for coverage?

Some race cars may be eligible for track day physical damage coverage during non-competitive events. Street use is typically insured separately under a personal auto or collector car policy. Eligibility is confirmed during the review process.

Is annual HPDE or track day insurance available?

Yes. Annual track day insurance may be available for drivers who participate in multiple non-competitive events throughout the year. A Track Insurance Specialist can help determine whether single-event or annual coverage is the right fit.

How much does track day insurance cost?

Pricing depends on several factors, including:

  • Vehicle value
  • Type of event
  • Frequency of participation
  • Driver experience

A Track Insurance Specialist can review your situation and outline available coverage options.
